Singapore Sweet Chilli Crab

Chilli Crab features whole crabs stir-fried in a tangy, spicy tomato-based sauce. It's typically served with mantou (fried or steamed buns) to soak up the flavourful sauce.

  • 1 tablespoon (8g) cornstarch and 2 tablespoons (30g) water

  • 7 tablespoons (104ml) peanut oil and 2 to 3 whole shallots, minced (about 1/2 cup)

  • 1/2-inch knob ginger and 6 garlic cloves

  • 4 Thai chillies, minced and tomato paste

  • whole blue crab

  • 1/2 cup (125ml) hot-sweet chili sauce and 1 large egg, beaten

  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions and coriander leaves

  • In small bowl, whisk cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water; set aside. In large wok with lid (or Dutch oven), heat oil over medium heat until shimmering. Stir in shallots, ginger, garlic, and chiles. Cook and stir until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  • Add crab pieces and broth. Increase heat to medium high and bring to a boil. Cover loosely and gently boil (decrease heat if necessary), until crab has turned red and is nearly cooked through, about 6 minutes.

  • Remove cover and stir in tomato paste and chili sauce. Simmer 1 minute and season to taste with salt, sugar, or chili sauce. Stir in cornstarch mixture and bring to a boil to thicken.

  • Remove from heat and whisk in egg. Stir in green onions. Ladle into serving dish, sprinkle with cilantro and serve.

 

Crab Cakes (USA)

A staple in American cuisine, especially in Maryland, these cakes are made from crab meat,  They are usually pan-fried or baked and served with tartar sauce.

Mix the crab with cold mashed potatoe, dip in egg and roll in breadcrumbs before frying

 

Biryani Crab (India)

A South Indian specialty, this dish combines fragrant basmati rice with a blend of spices and whole crabs. The crabs are cooked in the spiced rice, infusing the dish with a rich seafood flavour.

  1. Take Crab along with ½ Tsp. Turmeric Powder and ½ Tsp. Salt and boil it with water for 5 minutes and discard the water. This step is optional but advisable to follow to avoid allergies etc that may occur from consuming crab.
  2. Marinade Crab with Turmeric Powder and Salt.
  3. Heat oil in a deep-bottom vessel and shallow fry the Crab.
  4. Once done temper the remaining oil with Bay Leaf, Cinnamon Stick,  Green Cardamom, Dry Red Chilli, and cumin seeds
  5. Add chopped onion and fry till it turns translucent in color.
  6. Now add Ginger and Garlic Paste followed by Tomato paste and chopped Green Chilli and fry till the raw aroma goes and oil comes out from the edges.
  7. Add Turmeric Powder, Red Chilli Powder, Coriander Powder and cook for a minute.

Crab Linguine

This Italian pasta dish includes crab meat sautéed with garlic, tomatoes, white wine, and parsley, then tossed with spaghetti. It’s a light yet flavourful seafood pasta option.

  1. Cook the pasta in a large pan of boiling, well salted water (around 1 tsp per 600ml) for 7-8 minutes or until al dente.
  2. Meanwhile, put the chopped tomatoes, crabmeat, parsley, lemon juice, olive oil, chilli flakes and garlic into another pan and warm through over a gentle heat.
  3. Drain the pasta, return to the pan with the warmed sauce ingredients, then briefly toss together. Season to taste. Divide among 4 warmed plates and serve immediately.
